Numbering for Headings

Use the Heading Numbering dialog to add numbering to headings. The different levels in the dialog enable you to assign different headings as an outline structure for your document. In the default settings, the β€œHeading 1” paragraph style is assigned outline level 1. It is considered to be the top level in the document outline structure. The β€œHeading 2” paragraph style is assigned outline level 2, and so forth. You can also use the dialog to assign a custom paragraph style as a heading in the document structure.

To Add Automatic Numbering to a Heading

  2. Select the Level to configure.

  3. In the Paragraph style box, select the paragraph style for the selected level.
