Alignment

Sets the alignment of the paragraph relative to the margins of page.

To access this command...

From the menu bar:

Choose Format - Paragraph - Alignment tab.

From the tabbed interface:

On the Home tab, choose one of the alignments buttons.

From the sidebar:

Choose View - Styles - open context menu of an entry and choose New/Edit Style - Alignment tab.


Options

Set the alignment options for the current paragraph.

Start

Aligns the paragraph to the beginning of the line in the reading direction. For top-to-bottom text, this means alignment to the top.

Force Left

Aligns the paragraph to the left page margin.

Force Left/Top

For Asian languages, aligns the paragraph to the top left page margin.

Icon Align Start

Align Start

End

Aligns the paragraph to the end of the line in the reading direction. For top-to-bottom text, this means alignment to the bottom.

Force Right

Aligns the paragraph to the right page margin.

Force Right/Bottom

For Asian languages, aligns the paragraph to the bottom right page margin.

Centered

Centers the contents of the paragraph on the page.

Aligns the paragraph to the left and to the right page margins.

Snap to text grid (if active)

Aligns the paragraph to a text grid. To activate the text grid, choose Format - Page Style - Text Grid.

Alignment

Select an alignment option for oversized or undersized characters in the paragraph relative to the rest of the text in the paragraph.

Text direction

Specify the text direction for a paragraph that uses complex text layout (CTL). This feature is only available if complex text layout support is enabled.

Automatically set direction

Specifies to adjust the writing direction of the paragraph based on its content whenever the content is edited.

Justification

To prevent rivers - uneven white space that can appear between words in a justified paragraph - as well as excessive hyphenation, adjust the desired word spacing of a justified paragraph in relation to the width of the space character.

Preview Field

Displays a preview of the current selection.

Reset

Resets changes made to the current tab to those applicable when this dialog was opened.
